The article presents the monitoring of reproductive behaviour of population, conducted by Institute of Socio-Economic Development of Territories of Russian Academy of Sciences in the Vologda Oblast since 2005. The authors cover such issues as history and research methodology, and provide the most significant results of the monitoring. Maintaining high value of family and parenthood, downward trend in the need for children, especially in the rural areas, transformation of age fertility model can be mentioned among the latest ones. The main factors of reproductive choice are reproductive attitudes, living and material conditions, marital status, ability to provide proper education for future children and availability of health care. A large proportion of the population considers that the state should help families to realize desired births, carrying out the support policy. It will be effective to use information measures of person-centered profamily orientation, besides material ones
