The article presents the results of statistical analysis concerning the current state and development of the labor potential of rural areas in the Vologda Oblast. The labor potential is reviewed in unity of its quantitative and qualitative sides. The authors analyze the main qualitative characteristics of population in the regions of the Vologda Oblast: health, education level and activity rate
