Abstract   |   Authors   |   References
Obtaining reliable relevant information on the patterns of global demographic ageing is one of the most important challenges in achieving the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. However, it should be borne in mind that the demographic situation in some world regions remains significantly different. Thus, recommendations to support sustainable socio-economic development of the “ageing” states should also be differentiated according to the territorial specific features. In this regard, the relevance of research into studying the regional characteristics of the demographic ageing process is increasing. The purpose of this article is to study the changes in the main indicators of population ageing in Russia’s constituent entities, identify the patterns and territorial features of the phenomenon under study, and take into account the consequences in the socio-economic policy of the country’s regions. The first part of the research is devoted to regional differentiation of demographic ageing indicators in Russia. It is concluded that, despite the single vector of changes, the age structure of Russia’s constituent entities is not homogeneous. This applies primarily to differences in population characteristics in urban and rural areas. It is revealed that amid population ageing, the age structure of migration flows also undergoes significant changes. The second part presents analysis of strategies for socio-economic development of Russia’s constituent entities to take into account the problem of increasing the share and number of elderly people. It is revealed that the trends in population ageing and their consequences, which statistics clearly demonstrate, are not reflected in the strategic planning of Russia and its regions, which in the coming decades can significantly complicate the situation in many economic sectors
