One of the most important conditions for the transition to sustainable development is the economy ecologization, focused on the decreasing negative impact on the population and nature. The issues of the economy ecologization, and environmental and economic development are quite acute in Russia, as it is the largest country in the world with a huge potential of natural resources and, at the same time, there is a significant negative impact of the environment and population. State programs and national projects play the crucial role in solving these problems; their main aim is the improving population’s wellbeing in the environmental aspect. Balanced environmental and economic development should accompany its achievements. The purpose of the work is the analysis of the directions of Russia’s environmental and economic development. The information base is data, obtained from the open sources, including the material of the Federal State Statistics Service of Russia, reports of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, and Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, and published reports of the national projects and programs. The article presents the results of using tools to ensure the country’s environmental and economic development. The authors show the main issues, arising in the management of its environmental and economic development, in particular, in the implementation of the national project “Ecology”; late elaboration of the regulatory and legal base, disagreement of the national projects of environmental and other orientation among themselves.
