The study presents a brief review of the literature devoted to the problem of subjective well-being. Such issues as the economic theory of happiness, happiness index and terminal values are touched upon. Self-assessment of monetary income, self-identification, the mood of the population, the material status of society, and the level of approval of the region’s governor’s performance were analyzed as subjective indicators.
