The article tests the hypothesis that there is a potential to compensate for the risks of demographic aging by prolonging people’s active lives. The relevance of the topic lies in the impact of demographic aging on modern society and the economy, which requires adaptation to this process. In the first part, active longevity is considered as a concept of an aging society and a resource of the population. We note both negative and positive consequences of population aging related to demographic, economic and social aspects of society. In the second part, we analyze the indicators reflecting the greatest burden on the working-age population and life expectancy in a healthy state from 2000 to 2019. As part of the analysis of indicators of the demographic burden of older adults, we identify healthy life expectancy for those who have reached the age of 60, according to available data in the context of countries, groups of countries with a different combination of these indicators. The countries in the group with a high level of indicators demonstrate that a high standard of living and health care costs make it possible to increase healthy life expectancy in older ages, which helps these countries to compensate for the economic risks of demographic aging. In addition to the selected indicators, we analyze gross domestic product (annual and per capita) and the share of health care costs in it. The use of the correlation coefficient confirms a noticeable relationship between the selected indicators of aging and GDP per capita. In conclusion, we point out the relationship of demographic aging with healthy life expectancy and the effectiveness of the concept of active longevity
