The article is devoted to the problems and prospects of vocational guidance of young people. Vocational guidance is a significant factor in personality development; in the market economy conditions, it acts as one of the relevant measures for preventing unemployment and poverty, especially in rural areas. The approaches stated by the author allow to implement the ideas of the National project “Education” in terms of achieving the new quality of education, the upbringing a harmoniously developed and socially responsible person based on spiritual and moral values of the nations of the Russian Federation, historical and national cultural traditions through modernizing the system of supplementary education. The article presents the experience of vocational guidance work with schoolchildren, established in organizations of general education and the supplementary education system of the Vologda Municipal District of the Vologda Oblast. The author outlines the practice of implementing innovative projects of the federal level, realized by schools in a network format – in partnership with institutions of higher education, science and employers: “School of agrobusiness education named after M.G. Lobytov”, “Health saving village school with medical classes”. The implemented approaches allow to focus schoolchildren on choosing professions in relevant sectors of the national economy (such as the agro-industrial sector, healthcare, etc.) and to continue education in the region. Moreover, the results of the work show the high involvement of students in vocational guidance activities, various partnership links create the conditions for transparency of the educational process, broad socialization of students, and immersion in professions. In the long-term, this area of activity can be considered as a factor of preserving young people in the countryside and, as a result, sustainable demographic development
